Appendix E — Use of AI for these notes
The material upon which these notes are based predates the general availability of generative AI and LLMs, and the original design has been largely retained in the rewrite. No generative AI has been used for the choice of the topics, the logical organization of the material, nor for proofreading or otherwise refining the text—not a single paragraph in these notes has been automatically generated.
We sporadically used commercially available LLMs for brainstorming about very specific technical issues and for bibliographical research, as well as for setting up and developing the structure of the repository and explore the features that Quarto offers.
The vast majority of the code snippets are retained from the original material, and are completely human-generated. There is a few exceptions, most notably that in Section 5.5.1, where snippets were drafted by generative AI, and then refined by hand.
In the process of brainstorming with LLMs, we learned genuinely new things, such as the else clauses on loops.
